To really top off a Mario themed bedroom you can’t go without some Super Mario bedding on your bed. Luckily there is Super Mario bedding in all sorts and sizes available online. A typical full bedding set includes pillow cases, a comforter, a flat sheet and a full size fitted sheet. Throw in a throw blanket with which your kid can sleep and you’re all set.
Aside from the Super Mario chess we’ve covered earlier, there are more Mario board games available next to the ever popular Mario Party releases. Here’s a rundown on the most popular ones currently available.
Super Mario Yahtzee
If this isn’t the coolest looking version of Yahtzee you’ve seen I don’t know what is. Great way to have your kids learning the otherwise dull-looking, dice-rolling game. The Super Mario Yahtzee has one eye-catching coin block which also functions as the dice roller. The dice themselves feature a Mario related print (which are also on the score sheet) on each side which can encourage counting for young ones. Be aware that the inside of the coin block isn’t padded so in order to muffle the dice rattling of your Super Mario Yahtzee you might have to pad it with foam yourself.
Anyone up for a game of Nintento Monopoly? If you’re a true Nintendo fan you’ll love this collectors edition of Monopoly which has Mario and much more other famous Nintendo characters featured like Yoshi, Link and Bowser among others. The characters are property which you can buy on the board and famous in-game items like the Donkey Kong barrels and the Hyrule shield are the pawns with which you play, which pack a great amount of detail too. Consider this an offline Nintendo alternative in which your kids will learn some math on the side too. The amount of money allows for a Monopoly game up to 4 players but you can expand on that by adding some money from your classic Monopoly game.
Nintendo Domino Game
A true collectors’ item that was released in 2004 and is currently discontinued, but still available with some Amazon sellers is this tin lunchbox of dominoes featuring prints of Mario, Luigi and other famous Nintendo characters. Depending on which version you pick up the domino pieces are either of light-weight plastic or of more durable ivory (ceramic-like). If you have the choice try and pick up the latter as the lifespan of the heavier pieces tend to be longer (they are marked with “ITEM 707” on the bottom).
Super Mario figures have been around since the release of the first Mario Bros. The real collector has all the games’ matching Mario figures in his collection. To give you a good kick-start you can consider buying a full set with all kinds of Mario figurines. This particular set has 18 2″ mini figures, individually wrapped, in all kinds of flavors and several characters, like Mario himself in multiple positions. Please note that they are tiny and therefore not suitable for little toddlers. They have great detail and are fun for every Mario minded kid. You can also make these a decorative part of a Mario birthday cake as cake toppers for a Mario birthday party and use them as toys afterwards.
So now that you’ve stuffed your room full of Mario toys you find your room itself to be a bit dull. No worries, since Thinkgeek has an excellent product for decorating your walls in a Mario theme.
These Super Mario wall decals will throw any room back to the old-school Mario overworld. They are restickable vinyl wall stickers which you can freely place around your walls. Package includes 3, 26″ x 40″ sheets of decals so you should be ok with doing a small room completely with one package of Super Mario wall stickers.
If you want your kids to learn to play chess but they are put off by standard looking chess pieces the Super Mario chess set would be the perfect gift for them. The whole approach of this set is good versus bad, where one player has control over chess pieces of Mario and all his friends and the other player has control over King Bowser and his minions. The pawns are represented by coins on the good side and koopa’s on the other side. Goomba’s as pawns and Koopa’s as rooks would have been a better choice in our opinion but this doesn’t take away much from enjoying the game.
Please be aware that the size of the chess pieces doesn’t allow the game to be suitable for children under 3. If you discover that your child is not fond of playing chess the pieces itself are fun enough to be played with by themselves.
